What’s going on at Skinwalker Ranch? Nobody is entirely sure, despite many concerted attempts to find out. Since the 1990s, this farm in the US state of Utah has been reputed as a hive of ‘high strangeness’, from UFO sightings to poltergeist activity.
There’s said to be a ‘trickster’ energy to the paranormal phenomena lurking there, with disembodied voices and glowing orbs disappearing as quickly as they appear. Are the spooky stories about Skinwalker Ranch just folklore, or grounded in science?
Season 7 promises to take the investigation further than ever before. The team of scientific investigators currently based at the ranch have long been reporting their findings on Curse of Skinwalker Ranch. They’ve seen many remarkable and unexplained phenomena, but the Sky HISTORY show’s upcoming seventh season is set to be the most eye-opening yet.
Skinwalker Ranch is a roughly 512-acre patch of land nestled in the Uintah Basin, where UAPs (unidentified aerial phenomena) have reportedly been spotted for centuries. However, the ranch itself attracted little attention until June 1996, when the Sherman family occupying it at the time went public with some startling claims.
Terry and Gwen Sherman bought the ranch in 1994. On their first day there, they saw what looked like a massive wolf. It initially seemed friendly before suddenly attacking a calf, leading Terry to frantically shoot the wolf. The wolf slipped away, but appeared almost completely unharmed by the gunfire.
Later, Terry found more and more of his cattle left mutilated, often not long after strange lights had been seen overhead. Were they linked to the large indentations that mysteriously formed in the soil when the Shermans’ backs were turned?
Surely there had to be a down-to-earth explanation for all this? Aerospace businessman Robert Bigelow thought so, leading him to buy Skinwalker Ranch later in 1996. Though Bigelow has been relatively secretive about what he personally saw at the property during his 20-year stint there, the eerie tales continued unabated.
These reports have given rise to compelling theories about why Skinwalker Ranch is such a hotspot of paranormal activity. Many theories centre around the rocky Mesa area, where the sights of airborne luminescent orbs seem especially prominent.
Could the ranch have some Stargate-style portal where entities from other worlds, timelines or dimensions keep slipping into ours? It could explain the steady stream of apparent extraterrestrial visitors and even the wolf, said by the Shermans to resemble the long-extinct ‘dire wolf’ species.
The portal theory is also one that the current crew at the ranch have run with. They’ve been there since the late 2010s, after magnate Brandon Fugal bought the ranch from Bigelow in 2016. In recent episodes, the team have established the existence of what they refer to as ‘the Bubble’.
One member of the team, Dr Travis Taylor, has described the Bubble as ‘a massive invisible ball, almost like some kind of science-fiction forcefield’. With a 2,000-foot radius and reaching both above and below ground, the Bubble covers the Mesa site. ‘So far, we’ve seen its barriers block drones and even rockets from passing through it,’ Travis says of the Bubble.
‘We’ve picked up possible communication signals inside of it and documented a ton of UAPs going in and out of it,’ Travis adds. You can expect the Bubble to get even more attention soon, especially as it has also been found to contain another curious anomaly, ‘the Blob’.
Floating 31 feet above the ground, the Blob has spectacularly destroyed a rocket mid-air, as already seen on Curse of Skinwalker Ranch. So, as Travis explains, ‘the hope is that by concentrating on key areas like the Blob, we might unravel this entire Bubble mystery’.
As longtime viewers of the show will know, what look like specially manufactured, hi-tech ceramic materials have been unearthed from the Mesa. So, could the Bubble essentially be acting as some kind of security system for a buried spacecraft or the theorised interdimensional portal?
Season 7 promises plenty of material for viewers to form their own theories. In the UK, it’s set to start airing Wednesday 26th August 9pm on Sky HISTORY. You’ll also be able to watch on catch up and stream it on demand on HISTORY Play.
