What does Nostradamus predict for 2027?

Wildfires, economic collapse and a turning point in the Middle East. Just some of the things the soothsayer Nostradamus has seemingly predicted for 2027…

Could the 16th-century soothsayer Nostradamus really see the future? Given the vagaries of his written prophecies, we’ll probably never be able to tell for sure. Still, supporters have credited him with foreseeing many major historical events, from the Great Fire of London to 9/11.

So, whenever a new year beckons, Nostradamus fans clamour to see what he predicts for it. To be clear, none of his poetic quatrains (he penned more than 900 in total) specifically mention 2027. Still, it’s possible to read between the lines to tease out forecasts relevant to our current times.

We’ve long been fascinated by Nostradamus. The mystic Frenchman’s prophecies have featured in many of our programmes, from The UnXplained to Ancient Aliens. So, what did Nostradamus believe was set to happen in 2027? Here’s the Sky HISTORY verdict…

The Oak Island treasure is finally found

For centuries, mysterious treasure has (according to various legends) remained stubbornly buried on Oak Island, eluding various attempts to find it. Sky HISTORY viewers are pretty used to watching the Lagina brothers dig in search of the coveted haul on The Curse of Oak Island.

According to Nostradamus, things could change dramatically in 2027. The prophet’s quatrains were published in collections known as ‘Centuries’. The first includes these curious words: ‘Beneath the oak tree of Gienne, struck by lightning, the treasure is hidden not far from there.’

Could the close similarity of ‘Gienne’ to ‘Lagina’ really be just a coincidence? As if that wasn’t enough, the verse cites the treasure lying in wait ‘for many centuries’. Unfortunately, when it is actually found, ‘a man will die, his eye pierced by a spring’. This chimes with a legendary curse stating that seven men are destined to die in the hunt for the treasure.

Winds of change in the Middle East

Could each Century’s 27th quatrain pertain specifically to 2027? That’s certainly one way of interpreting the numbering of Nostradamus’s verse, and it shines intriguing new light on the current turmoil in the Middle East.

The 27th quatrain of Century V includes: ‘Through fire and arms not far from the Black Sea, / He will come from Persia to occupy Trebizond’. Persia and Trebizond are the historical names for, respectively, Iran and Trabzon (a city on Turkey’s Black Sea coast).

Could this be hinting at Turkey’s potential role in resolving the long-running war between Iran and the United States? Could Trabzon perhaps host some kind of peace summit, with an Iranian representative (the ‘He’ of the quatrain) in attendance?

The far-right face an upset in France

In Century IX’s 27th quatrain, Nostradamus apparently predicts his own country’s future. He declares: ‘The forester, the wind will be close around the bridge, / Received highly, he will strike the Dauphin.’ Given that ‘Dauphin’ was the customary title of the heir apparent to the now long-defunct French throne, this verse can’t possibly refer to 2027… right?

However, Nostradamus is thought to have been deliberately cryptic with his prophecies to avoid persecution by religious authorities. So, what if ‘Dauphin’ here is actually an allegory for current French president Emmanuel Macron’s expected ‘heir’? In other words, the current frontrunner to win the 2027 French presidential election? That would be far-right leader Marine Le Pen, so could she face a surprise challenge in the election race?

Wildfires wreak havoc on the natural world

As climate change drives temperatures to new highs, wildfires have intensified, with even worse expected to come. Nostradamus concurs, judging from the unsettling vision in Century XI’s 27th quatrain.

‘Celestial fire from the Western side, / And from the South, running up to the East, / Worms half dead without finding even a root.’ In short, it’s not only going to be humans who struggle to contend with the increasingly extreme heat.

Nostradamus predicts a debt crisis

Okay, this one’s not from a 27th quatrain, but could hint at economic upheaval on the cards for 2027. Century VIII’s 28th quatrain tells of ‘copies of gold and silver inflated, / Which after the theft were thrown into the lake’.

Nostradamus also refers to a state of being ‘exhausted and dissipated by the debt’, adding ominously: ‘All scripts and bonds will be wiped out.’ Sounds like the makings of a financial crash. Obviously, we hope that’s not going to happen.
