Curse of Skinwalker Ranch: Who is Cameron Fugal?

Cameron Fugal is a familiar face on Sky HISTORY’s Curse of Skinwalker Ranch. Here’s why the aviator is much more than just ranch owner Brandon’s brother.

When real-estate magnate Brandon Fugal acquired Skinwalker Ranch in 2016, he didn’t originally intend to go public as the Utah property’s new owner. Instead, he wanted to keep things low-key while undertaking his own covert investigations into the tantalising stories surrounding this alleged paranormal hotspot.

However, after deciding to open up to the public about the fruits of these investigations, Brandon stepped into the TV spotlight. Sky HISTORY’s Curse of Skinwalker Ranch follows his team of scientific researchers as they seek to uncover the truth behind the eerie legends. Brandon isn’t the only Fugal involved, either…

Brandon’s brother, experienced aviator Cameron Fugal, has also appeared regularly on the series. There’s clearly something strange happening in the skies above the ranch, with peculiar lights, orbs and other UAPs (unidentified aerial phenomena) all spotted there. Here’s how Cameron Fugal became the main man to give the team a closer look on the popular Sky HISTORY show.

Cameron Fugal’s background

‘I have three brothers. My poor mother was outnumbered,’ Brandon quipped on The Shawn Ryan Show in May 2023. In the same interview, Brandon revealed that the Fugal brothers grew up in Pleasant Grove, Utah.

While Brandon was exploring the real-estate business as early as his teens, Cameron’s own teenage years took a very different route. By the age of 15, he was already working towards gaining his pilot’s licence. He is now the CEO of Aero Dynamic Jets, a Utah-based company offering aircraft solutions for personal or business use.

How Cameron joined the Skinwalker Ranch team

On The Shawn Ryan Show, Brandon revealed that Skinwalker Ranch is a two-and-a-half-hour drive from his Salt Lake City office. So, Curse of Skinwalker Ranch viewers shouldn’t be too surprised by the scenes where Brandon arrives at the ranch not by car, but by helicopter. His brother Cameron is the one piloting it, too.

Brandon brought Cameron onto the ranch as early as 2016. It wasn’t long before Cameron had his first chilling experience there. In October 2016, Brandon, Cameron and other future Curse of Skinwalker Ranch cast members decided to trek around the 512-acre site. In the event, near one of the homesteads, several members of the group reported feeling a sense of vertigo.

Then, physicist Erik Bard’s phone started malfunctioning. Cameron Fugal confessed to feeling uneasy and decided to leave for the airport. Not that he could keep himself away from the ranch for too long. On the contrary, he appeared to somewhat thrive on the sense of danger.

Brandon told Shawn Ryan: ‘He’s saying, you know, this is discovery. This is frontier science discovery. Only the bold end up being able to really pierce through and to realise extraordinary results.’

Cameron’s most notable moments on the show

When researchers want to examine Skinwalker Ranch from high above, Cameron is often on hand to take them on his trusty helicopter. When he has, though, things have rarely gone quite as planned. Here are just two instances caught on camera during the show’s lengthy run.

Cameron’s helicopter gets hit by a ‘vortex’

After seeing signs of a suspicious airborne anomaly, Cameron Fugal takes Dr Travis Taylor thousands of feet up in a helicopter to investigate. The two find further evidence of the anomaly, but are also disturbed as the aircraft is roiled by surprise turbulence.

It happens in the fourth season’s first episode, with Taylor later musing: ‘The outside wind speeds that registered on the helicopter’s instruments were totally insignificant. It was just this strange, invisible force pushing us around. I have no scientific explanation for it.’

Cameron’s helicopter almost collides with a UAP?

Viewers have long been gripped by the team’s efforts to find answers to the Skinwalker Ranch mystery. Is there some kind of interdimensional portal there, often letting entities from other worlds through? If so, one of those entities might have once flown close to Cameron’s chopper.

We get to see it in the sixth season’s opening episode, when Cameron flies above the ranch’s Triangle area. Technologist Pete Kelsey, also onboard the helicopter at the time, reports seeing something ‘small, white, fast’ zip by him.

The astonishing claim is quickly corroborated, too. A camera on the copter captures footage of what looks like a white spherical UAP. The team agrees that it doesn’t resemble a bird, so what is it?
