Let’s Never Forget, Driving Miss Daisy Won One

It was on this prestigious evening in 1953 that the Academy Awards were shown on TV for the first time ever. In order to ensure things were even more complicated, the ceremony was held in Hollywood and New York concurrently. And, as everyone was smoking, it was quite hard to make out what was going on most of the time.

To ensure that the televised awards started as they meant to go on, the best picture winner, The Greatest Show on Earth, was considered one of the worst films of the year and the disappointed viewing audience vowed never to bother watching again. But then they did.
