Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne in 1952, following the death of her father King George VI. At just 25 years-old she was the youngest monarch in almost two centuries. Her coronation on 2nd June 1953 was watched on television by more than 20 million people as the country, and the world, welcomed the new Queen. During her 70-year reign, she oversaw 15 prime ministers, witnessed a monumental shift in the country's society, and became the first British monarch to celebrate a platinum jubilee.

On Thursday, 8th September 2022, Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96. Sky HISTORY joins the world in mourning her passing, but also celebrates the life and achievements of one of the greatest ever monarchs.
