On this day:

World's tallest roller coaster, Kingda Ka, opens

Scream If You Want To Go Faster (You Don’t)

Sufferers of vertigo, motion sickness or allergic to the sound of teenagers screaming, look away now. On this day in 2005 the world’s tallest roller coaster, the Kingda Ka, opened at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. It was also the world’s fastest roller coaster until it was bettered by the Formula Rossa ride which goes 149 miles per hour for reasons I couldn’t even possibly begin to understand.

I mean, the Kingda is no slouch, firing along the track at 128 miles per hour before shooting you 456 feet in the air. Not that you’d know as I assume you have your eyes closed and your mouth open the whole time. The whole experience lasts a gut churning 28 seconds. I don’t even like doing things I enjoy for 28 seconds, but if this is the way you get your kicks, then go right ahead. I’ll be at the fried dough stand, eating, pointing and laughing at you.
