Sky HISTORY - This Day in HISTORY
On this day:

Last ever episode of Friends airs

My only true Friends

It’s quite something that a television show is so successful that it can be identified by a short burst of rhythmic clapping. But that is the case with comedy goliath Friends that first perked centrally in 1994 and then bowed out with an episode appropriately named The Last One on this day in 2004. After a critically slow start, over ten seasons the show grew to become one of the most popular sitcoms of all time.

The finale attracted 52.46 million viewers, making it the sixth most watched television series finale in US history. What's weird, unlike other hugely watched shows like MASH and The Fugitive, Friends continues to be hideously popular. For reasons that no-one understands (just like most of the stuff that they like and do) Millennials have taken the show to their hearts, watching and re-watching repeats constantly. And yet no-one watched even a second of the spin-off Joey. There is just no justice in the world.
