Guns N' Roses release first album, Appetite for Destruction

Going For a Slash

Are you ready to rock? I didn’t hear you, ARE YOU READY TO RAWK! Good, I’m glad, that’s very nice. Heads were banged just a little harder and bandana sales went though the roof on this day in 1987 as those wild, bad, wild boys of rock and roll, Guns N’ Roses, released their debut album: Appetite For Destruction. And how apt was that title? Flipping apt, if you don’t mind me saying.

The songs dealt with their manic partying ways, drug troubles and run ins with the law.And yet, despite all these objectionable songwriting material choices, the album slowly rose up the charts, taking over a year to hit the number one slot.

It went on to become one of the best selling albums of all time, with sales currently around the 30 million mark. And let’s face it, there are a decent amount of karaoke favourites on the album as well. Who hasn’t completely shamed themselves by warbling Welcome To The Jungle or Sweet Child O’Mine at the top of their lungs to a disbelieving audience? I know I have.
