Bomb Hunters
About

“We only have to be lucky once; you have to be lucky always”.
Patrick McGee – IRA Grand Hotel Brighton bomber.
Two years ago nobody had really heard of the IED (improvised explosive devices). Now barely a news broadcast goes by without us hearing those three letters. IEDs have entered into our everyday life and language, conjuring up a world of deadly conflict.
What is day-to-day life like working with IEDs? We explore how NATO forces battle suicide bombers at checkpoints and armed insurgents ambush military convoys on desert roads.
What is it like to work in these deadly environments? And who are the men who do one of the world's most dangerous jobs? Welcome to the world of the Bomb Hunters...
It's a world that Chris Hunter knows only too well. As a former army bomb disposal expert with over 14 years experience in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan he's successfully defused hundreds of explosive devices.
Having lost 7 close colleagues to IEDs he doesn't need any further reminding of the grim truth of the terrorist's mantra,
“We only have to be lucky once; you have to be lucky always”.
Patrick McGee – IRA Grand Hotel Brighton bomber.
Chris takes us on a journey inside the mind of both bomb-maker and bomb hunter, detailing the deadly game of cat and mouse in techniques, tactics and technologies that's become a key part of the history of this, the Improvised Explosive Device.
