Surviving History
About

Surviving History, a 28-minute artistic documentary, traces the journey of the researcher, Shivaun Woolfson, in her quest to collect and collate the living imprints of the Jewish presence in Lithuania after the tragic events of World War II. The film, which premiered at the Festival de Cannes Short Film Corner in May 2009, was the winner of the Audience Poll award at the Ninth Imperial War Museum Film Festival.
Surviving History presents the life stories of ten individuals who survived the Holocaust in Lithuania, where 95 per cent of the 240,000-strong pre-war Jewish population was annihilated. The narrators represent a rapidly diminishing community. Today, approximately 2,800 Jews live in what was once known as the "Jerusalem of the North."
Of this number, there are only 106 ghetto and camp survivors and less than 100 former partisans and soldiers remaining. All of those interviewed lost family members to the Holocaust. In a few cases, they are the lone survivors among extended families of over one hundred people to have come through alive.
HISTORY, proud sponsors of the Ninth Imperial War Museum Film Festival, have unique access to the documentary, which you can watch here. Also in this site go behind the scenes with an exclusive interview with Shivuan Woolfson.
